On Saturday, April 1, the grounds at PCC will be full of colored Easter eggs, hidden and waiting for kids from the community to find them. We’ll have some stations for coloring, crafts, and face painting, and snacks. Growing Daisies Ministries is hosting their (and our) first ever Easter Egg Hunt. It’s open to the public and we’re hoping and praying to get as many kids as we can from ages 1 to 10 years (5th grade) to participate.
Inside each egg will be a message like God loves you, to teach children about God in a simple, straightforward way. The goal of the egg hunt is to introduce children and their families to Jesus and the church in a fun and engaging way. Stacie Hedrick explained, “My heart is burdened so much for children. I really just want kids to know Jesus, that’s what this is all about.” The burden for children is why Stacie stepped forward to do the egg hunt and why she started the Growing Daisies Ministry. Growing Daisies is dedicated to taking care of a child in need or helping a family with children going through a tough time by providing a blessing. They show God's love with a Daisy box or bag filled with clothing, hygiene items and a book. They pray for each child with hope that the gift can help them grow “from just a seed into a beautiful flower.”
Stacie already has 996 plastic eggs donated by Giant Eagle in Ravenna. The day they were given to her was really the catalyst for starting the egg hunt. Stacie had been wrestling back and forth with God about the egg hunt and “I kept thinking it was something God wanted me to do but I really wasn’t sure about it. I had ideas but really didn’t want to tackle something so big. I’m more a behind-the-scenes person.” So when, after Christmas, she was looking at the clearance merchandise and asked a Giant Eagle employee whether the store might donate some of it to Growing Daisies for their kids gifts and the employee replied instead, “Would you like some plastic eggs?” Stacie knew God was definitely not going to let the egg hunt idea go away.
Although Stacie has 996 plastic eggs donated by Giant Eagle, there’s lots more needed for the hunt and you can help. She needs candy to put inside with the messages about God, small prizes for older kids, cookies, and supplies or funds to make a few Easter baskets for special “golden egg” prizes and a few more volunteers for the day of the event. There’s a form with specifics at the Information Center in the lobby to volunteer and a donation basket in the commons.
