Information on Portage Chapel sponsored short-term mission trips
Each year we have opportunities to take teams and work with our missionaries directly. Sometimes it's construction work, sometimes outreach, medical, and most of the time, a mix of two or more of these elements. For most trips, we have an application process and all applications are reviewed by Tim Miller, the PCC Missions Pastor. The minimum age to be part of most PCC missions teams is 16; however, if accompanied by a parent and depending on the trip in question, we evaluate on a case-by-case basis.
2018 mission trips
Savannah, Ohio - Mission To Amish
This mission trip is open to anyone; younger children can come help parents and no application is needed. We travel to MAP Ministry headquarters and help prepare their bi-monthly outreach mailing to the Amish. Team members can meet at the church at 7:30 am to carpool or travel directly to MAP on their own (575 US Highway 250 Savannah, OH 44874). A team of 10-12 people is ideal for this project and with that amount of help, the job can be completed by or before 1 or 2:00 pm. More team members can come and the job will be done quicker. Hot coffee and water are available; we usually stop for lunch on the way home but depending on your eating schedule you may want to bring a sack lunch or snacks with you. June 22-29, 2018
Be part of a team that serves the disabled, allowing them to have a rich camp experience and give their primary caregivers a much-needed break. We take a team of 30 people to serve as cabin helpers and helping hands - the cleaning, cooking, and helping crew. The camp is located in Warsaw, Ohio and the team will carpool from the church. Cost for the trip is $175. Please fill out BOTH the PCC application and the Echoing Hills volunteer application. Return them to Tim & Becka Miller, Tracy Coblentz or the PCC office with a $50 deposit by May 1. Tracy will be leading this team so contact her with any additional questions (330-354-3926).
MEXICO - ONNEMI INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES
July 6-15, 2018, approx. cost is $900-1,000
Pastor Tim Miller will lead this team down to Cd. Juarez to work with Onnemi International Ministries. Youth are welcome and encouraged to be part of this team - the community in which we'll be serving has a thriving teen population and Onnemi is always looking to encourage those relationships. We'll be doing a mix of construction and ministry: building wall partitions and installing electric and plumbing in the main ministry building and helping the Onnemi team get ready for the summer VBS week. Please turn in an application with a $100 deposit by May 8.
ALASKA - FUNNY RIVER BIBLE CHURCH
July 27-August 6th, 2018, approx. cost is $1,300-1,500
Pastor Tim Miller will lead a team to Funny River, Alaska to help support our sister church, Funny River Bible, with construction, relationship building and community projects. Please turn in an application with a $100 deposit by May 31.
