PORTAGE COMMUNITY CHAPEL
Worship at Our Church |
|
The focus of worship at Portage Community Chapel is the person and work of Almighty God. Worship, then, is predominantly vertical exercise that focuses first of all on who God is: His Love, Justice, Holiness, Purity, Power, and all the other inexhaustible attributes that make Him a God worthy of worship. Second, our worship focuses on the mighty acts God has done that shaped the world and the entire redemptive history of mankind: creation, salvation in all it’s mystery, His sustaining grace and mercy, and His continued presence in our lives and the world.

We believe God is majestic, awesome, and worthy of the best that we have to offer Him. We believe that God demands and deserves these first fruits of all we have, including our time, talent, and treasure, and so we focus all of our efforts on doing everything to the best of our abilities in every service. We also believe that He is approachable in personal knowledge and experience through out mediator Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, who intercedes on our behalf, communicating our heart’s true worship to the Father. Therefore, we desire to see everyone, from every walk of life and every level of spirituality, participating in the worship service.

Our worship service is a blend of traditional and contemporary elements. Through hymns, praise songs, choir and special music presentation, drama, video and other media presentation, personal testimonies, and the preaching of God’s Word, we focus our efforts on leading God’s people into meaningful, proper worship of Him and preparing our hearts for the message He has prepared for us. The main worship service at Portage Community Chapel is first and foremost for God’s people, to strengthen, prepare, and encourage them as followers of Christ. However, it is also an opportunity for those who do not have a personal and real relationship with the God of the universe (those many have labeled Seekers) to come and learn, to experience being in the presence of God and His people, and hopefully be encouraged to take a step of faith in Christ as a result.

Finally, worship extends beyond the service into all areas of life. Worship should be part of everyday life, where those who have experienced the grace and provision of Jesus Christ are driven to live their faith out in gratitude as part of their daily experiences. It is our desire that all who come to worship with us would carry their worship into every place they go during the week.
